What Cookies Are and What They Are Used For

Cookies are small text files that a website sends to a user’s device while browsing. These files are stored and subsequently sent back to the site on later visits.

Cookies help make browsing simpler and more functional, in addition to enabling certain site features and the collection of information about how the site is used.

Cookies are distinguished according to two criteria:

  • Origin: first-party cookies (installed by the site being visited) and third-party cookies (installed by external sites through the site being visited);
  • Purpose: technical cookies and profiling cookies.

Only profiling cookies require the user’s consent.

This site uses technical cookies and third-party profiling cookies.

Technical Cookies

Technical cookies are necessary for the proper functioning of the site and to enable browsing and use of the requested services.

These include:

  • Navigation or session cookies, which allow normal use of the site and its features;
  • Analytics cookies, used to collect aggregated information on the number of users and how the site is used;
  • Functionality cookies, which allow user preferences (such as language or settings) to be remembered in order to improve the browsing experience.

In particular, the site uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4), which collects statistical browsing information in aggregated and anonymized form.

Google Analytics 4 GDPR Compliance

The Controller has adopted the following technical and organizational measures to ensure Google Analytics 4 complies with the GDPR and the measures issued by the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante Privacy):

  • Activation of IP address anonymization, which makes it impossible to directly identify the user;
  • Disabling of data-sharing features with Google for advertising and remarketing purposes;
  • Disabling of personalized advertising signals;
  • Configuration of data retention for the minimum period necessary (14 months);
  • Execution of a Data Processing Amendment (DPA) with Google, which designates Google as a Data Processor under Article 28 of the GDPR;
  • Adoption of the Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission for any data transfers to the United States, in accordance with the Schrems II ruling of the EU Court of Justice (Case C-311/18);
  • Ongoing verification that there are no systematic transfers of personal data to third countries lacking an adequacy decision.

These measures ensure that data collected through Google Analytics 4 is processed in compliance with the data minimization principle (Art. 5(1)(c) GDPR), in anonymous and aggregated form, without allowing users to be directly identified.

You can opt out of Google Analytics by downloading the browser add-on available at: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

The use of technical cookies does not require the user’s consent.
